Roberto Mancini, the head coach of the Italian national football team, has publicly distanced himself from the recent allegations facing Manchester City regarding 115 financial rule violations. Following a ruling that found the club guilty of 114 out of these 115 charges, Mancini emphasized that he does not view the situation as relevant to him.
Manchester City’s Legal Battle
Despite the ruling, Manchester City remains adamant in its position that they did not breach any financial regulations. The controversy has put Mancini’s name in the spotlight due to the time frame of the alleged infractions, which spans from 2009 to 2018, a period during which he was managing the club.
Reports indicated that one of the accusations against the club relates to alleged off-book payments to Mancini. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Mancini reportedly received funds from additional contracts and arrangements with Al Jazira, a football club in Abu Dhabi owned by Sheikh Mansour, the chairman of Manchester City itself. This arrangement is said to be valued at £1.7 million, requiring him to provide a minimum of four days of consultation each year.
In response to these claims, Mancini stated, “I don’t think Manchester City has been found guilty; in fact, it is quite the opposite. This is not a matter that concerns me, nor is it something new. Manchester City is innocent, and the issue of dual contracts, if it exists, is their problem, not mine.”

Al Mubarak expressed his desire to communicate more details to the fans, stating that confidentiality during legal proceedings has restricted the information he can disclose. He remarked that even his correspondence with supporters had to undergo numerous legal reviews. He then urged fans to thoroughly read the club’s statement released on Friday and previous statements from February 2023, asserting that every phrase contained in those documents is still applicable.
The chairman concluded, “Although some individuals quickly draw their conclusions and there is so much noise surrounding us, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges as a united front before and emerged victorious. There are still many who wish to disrupt the club’s momentum, and we will not give them that chance.”
