SBOTOP Jay Idzes’ Coach Gets Emotional After Sassuolo Thrash Como: “A Masterpiece!”

Sassuolo head coach Fabio Grosso was visibly emotional after watching his team secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Como in Matchday 33 of the 2025/2026 Serie A season on Friday night. Deeply moved by his players’ display, Grosso described their performance as nothing short of a “masterpiece.”

Sassuolo Edge Como in Intense Serie A Clash

The home side took control of the match late in the first half, striking twice in quick succession. Cristian Volpato opened the scoring with a well-taken finish, before M’Bala Nzola doubled the advantage moments later, giving Sassuolo a crucial cushion heading into halftime.

Como responded just before the break through Nico Paz, who pulled one back to keep the contest alive. Despite mounting pressure in the second half, Sassuolo held firm defensively to preserve their 2-1 lead and claim all three points.

Grosso: “This Was a True Masterclass”

Speaking to DAZN after the match, Fabio Grosso couldn’t hide his pride and emotion as he praised his squad’s performance.

“I told the players they made me emotional today—they created a masterpiece,” Grosso said. “Facing a team like Como in a match like this is never easy, but we handled it brilliantly.”

The former Italy international highlighted his team’s tactical intelligence, emphasizing their ability to read the game and execute at the right moments.

“We chose the right moments to act and made the right decisions throughout the match. Credit goes entirely to the players,” he added.

A Positive Season with Bigger Challenges Ahead

Grosso also reflected on Sassuolo’s overall campaign, describing it as a highly encouraging season while reminding his team that there is still work to be done.

“It’s been a fantastic year so far, but now we need to recover and stay focused. There are still tough opponents ahead, and we’ll face teams performing at a very high level,” he explained.

He reserved special praise for match-winners Volpato and Nzola, whose contributions proved decisive in securing the victory.

“I’m very happy with this group. They train hard and deserve recognition for their performances. We’ve achieved great things, and we want to keep that momentum going,” Grosso said.

Backing Volpato’s Development and Team Identity

Grosso also took time to highlight the development of Cristian Volpato, whom he believes has immense potential to become a top-level player.

“I speak with him often. He has incredible talent and the ability to impact games, whether playing wide or centrally,” Grosso noted. “Sometimes he needs to improve his tempo, but his determination is clear. If he continues to grow, he can reach a very high level.”

Sassuolo Closing in on Key Milestone

With this victory, Sassuolo move closer to an important benchmark, now just five points away from the 50-point mark with five matches remaining in the season.

“We’ve achieved a lot, and perhaps quicker than expected,” Grosso admitted. “The beginning wasn’t easy, but we found our rhythm again.”

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of maintaining the club’s identity despite facing adversity throughout the campaign.

“We’ve done something special, even through difficult moments, while staying true to who we are. I’m extremely proud of these players—not only for what they’ve done, but for what they will continue to do.”

Sassuolo’s latest win not only boosts their position in the Serie A standings but also reinforces their growing reputation as a resilient and tactically disciplined side under Fabio Grosso.
