SBOTOP Arsenal Urged to Retain Viktor Gyokeres: Risks Mikel Arteta Might Face

In a compelling turn of events, Jeremie Aliadiere, a former striker for Arsenal, has raised alarms over the potential sale of Viktor Gyokeres during the upcoming January transfer window. He emphasizes that parting ways with the Swedish forward could severely limit Mikel Arteta’s options in the attacking department.

The Uncertain Future of Gyokeres at Arsenal

The future of Viktor Gyokeres is currently under scrutiny, especially after his impactful performance that contributed to Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League. Regardless of his contributions, Gyokeres has struggled to find consistent playing time in the Premier League this season, starting only once thus far. His position has become more precarious following Arteta’s inclination to prioritize Kai Havertz as a key attacking figure.

As Arsenal approaches the winter transfer window, crucial decisions loom. On one hand, the club may be tempted to entertain offers for Gyokeres, but releasing him without securing a suitable replacement could jeopardize the squad’s depth.

Aliadiere’s Warning on Financial Considerations and Risk of Injury

Aliadiere asserts that the choice to release Gyokeres must take into account the club’s financial situation alongside the availability of a suitable substitute. He argues that a lucrative sale would be of little benefit if Arsenal struggles to find an adequate replacement. This concern is exacerbated by Havertz’s frequent injury history. Should the German international suffer another setback after Gyokeres’ departure, Arsenal could find themselves short-handed in the striker department.

“The decision heavily relies on the financial aspect, how much they stand to gain from his sale, and who could take his spot,” Aliadiere stated in an interview with Metro. “Although Gyokeres isn’t currently in the starting XI due to Havertz’s preference, selling him for a good price could backfire if no suitable replacement is found.”

He continued, “If Havertz gets injured, as we’ve witnessed in the past, we’re faced with the possibility of having no strikers available at all.”

Aliadiere also expressed doubts about Gyokeres being a long-term fix for Arsenal’s attacking conundrum, noting that the player’s style may not fully harmonize with Arteta’s tactical approach. He believes Gyokeres thrives on quick ball distribution to maximize his potential, yet he feels Arsenal’s current players are not providing the timely passes he needs to shine.

“The way Arsenal plays at this moment doesn’t align entirely with Gyokeres’ game,” Aliadiere explained. “I believe he possesses remarkable capabilities, yet the team isn’t delivering the ball to him quickly enough, which is essential for him.”

As Arsenal prepares for their upcoming fixture against Hull City, scheduled for November 7, the club will no doubt continue to weigh the implications of any decisions regarding Gyokeres. The stakes are high, and one misstep could alter the trajectory of their season.
