SBOTOP: Former Real Madrid Star Set to Become Ruben Amorim’s Second Signing at AC Milan?

AC Milan are reportedly on the verge of completing their second major signing of the summer transfer window, with Lazio defender Mario Gila emerging as the club’s next priority.

Following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach, the Rossoneri have accelerated their squad rebuild ahead of the new Serie A campaign. After making headlines with the blockbuster acquisition of striker Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, Milan are now focusing on strengthening their defensive line.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Mario Gila has become one of Amorim’s top targets as the Portuguese manager continues to reshape the squad at San Siro.

Mario Gila Emerges as AC Milan’s Top Defensive Target

Romano reports that Amorim is determined to bring in another central defender before the transfer window closes, and Mario Gila has moved to the top of Milan’s shortlist.

The 25-year-old Spanish defender came through Real Madrid’s prestigious academy, earning a reputation as one of the club’s promising young talents. However, in 2022, Gila decided to leave the Santiago Bernabéu in search of regular first-team football, joining fellow Serie A side Lazio.

Since arriving in Italy, the defender has developed into one of the league’s most consistent center-backs. His composure on the ball, intelligent positioning, aerial dominance, and ability to play out from the back have made him a standout performer in Serie A.

Those qualities reportedly fit perfectly with Ruben Amorim’s tactical philosophy, making Gila an ideal candidate to reinforce Milan’s back line.

Ruben Amorim Personally Led the Negotiations

One of the key reasons the transfer appears to be progressing quickly is Amorim’s direct involvement.

According to Romano, the AC Milan manager personally contacted Mario Gila to explain his long-term vision for the club and the role he expects the Spanish defender to play in his system.

Rather than leaving negotiations solely to the club’s sporting directors, Amorim reportedly took the initiative to convince the player that San Siro would be the ideal destination for the next stage of his career.

The conversation is said to have made a strong impression on Gila, who quickly became enthusiastic about the project.

Reports suggest the two parties have already reached a verbal agreement, with the defender now open to completing the move to Milan during the current transfer window.

Transfer Fee Could Reach €30 Million

Although personal terms are believed to be largely settled, AC Milan must still finalize an agreement with Lazio.

Mario Gila remains under contract with the Biancocelesti until June 2027, meaning Lazio are under no immediate pressure to sell one of their most valuable defensive assets.

As a result, Milan are expected to submit an offer in the region of €30 million to convince Lazio to approve the transfer.

Negotiations between the two Serie A clubs are expected to continue in the coming days as Milan look to complete the deal before pre-season preparations intensify.

Milan Continue Their Summer Rebuild Under Amorim

After securing Gonçalo Ramos in a record-breaking transfer, AC Milan have made it clear they are determined to build a squad capable of competing for the Serie A title and making a deep run in European competition.

Strengthening the defense has become one of Ruben Amorim’s main priorities, and Mario Gila is viewed as a player who can immediately improve the team’s stability while fitting into the club’s long-term project.

If the negotiations are completed successfully, the former Real Madrid academy graduate will become Ruben Amorim’s second signing as AC Milan manager, marking another significant step in the Rossoneri’s ambitious rebuilding process ahead of the new season.
