Mаlауѕіаn badminton duо Aаrоn Chia аnd Soh Wooi Yіk аrе enjoying a spectacular run оf form, rасkіng up titles—and саѕh—оn thе international сіrсuіt. Over the course of just four recent tournaments, the red-hot pair has earned a jaw-dropping RM708,905, showcasing not only their consistency but also their growing dominance on the global stage.
Their most recent conquest came at the 2025 Singapore Open (Super 750 level), where the world No. 3 men’s doubles team clinched the championship in style. The victory earned them a substantial US$74,000 (approximately RM314,942) in prize money, adding to their impressive financial and sporting success this season.
Title-Winning Streak Across Asia
Prior to their Singapore triumph, Aaron and Wooi Yik captured the prestigious Badminton Asia Championships title in April, taking home RM157,438. They followed that up with a resounding win at the Thailand Open, where they added another RM159,705 to their earnings. Even in the Malaysia Masters, where they finished as runners-up, the pair still collected a notable RM76,820.
Their earnings are a testament not just to their skill but to their growing reputation as one of the most formidable pairs in men’s doubles badminton today.
World No. 1 Ranking Within Reach
Currently ranked world No. 3, Aaron-Wooi Yik are inching ever closer to the coveted No. 1 spot. With 89,870 ranking points following their Singapore victory, they now trail only slightly behind Denmark’s Kim Astrup–Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (90,411 points) and Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who currently sit at No. 1 with 91,090 points.
With only a 1,220-point gap separating them from the top spot, Aaron and Wooi Yik are poised to potentially leapfrog their rivals at the Indonesia Open Super 1000, set to begin this Tuesday. A strong performance in Jakarta could see the pair crowned as the new world No. 1, a historic milestone for their career.
Staying Grounded: Titles Over Rankings
Despite the buzz around their rankings, Aaron Chia remains focused on the big picture. He has consistently emphasized that winning tournaments, rather than chasing ranking points, remains their top priority.
“Winning titles is what really matters to us. If we perform well and consistently, the rankings will take care of themselves,” Aaron said during a press conference at the Malaysia Masters.
“We’ve reached world No. 2 before, but never quite made it to No. 1. Still, that isn’t our main goal. In men’s doubles, the competition is extremely tight, and rankings alone don’t give you a major edge.”
This mindset appears to be working wonders for the duo, as they continue to improve with each tournament and gain momentum heading into the second half of the season.
What’s Next?
As they head to Jakarta for the Indonesia Open Super 1000, expectations are sky-high. If Aaron and Wooi Yik maintain their form, not only could they break into the No. 1 spot for the first time in their career, but they could also send a strong message ahead of the World Championships and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where they will undoubtedly be among the favorites.
Their incredible journey—from Olympic bronze medalists to elite title contenders—now seems to be reaching its climax. With form, focus, and firepower on their side, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are undoubtedly the pair to watch in world badminton right now.
