Barcelona is reportedly contemplating the sale of Jules Kounde as a means to bolster their finances for future signings. The French defender has found his place in the starting XI under threat, attracting interest from several top European clubs.
Potential Transfers and Competition for Kounde
Chelsea is believed to have made initial inquiries regarding the possibility of acquiring Kounde, while Bayern Munich’s interest has also been noted. The situation raises questions about the future of the 27-year-old center-back, who may soon find himself at a crossroads in his career.
The competition within Barcelona’s defense has intensified recently, especially with Eric Garcia being predominantly utilized as a right-back. The emergence of young talent Xavi Espart, along with plans to recruit new players, have contributed to Kounde’s uncertain standing.
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona may consider selling Kounde in order to fund other transfers, including the potential acquisition of another center-back. Despite this, the defender still retains a chance to reclaim his spot, making his departure not an absolute certainty.
Kounde’s Shift in Role at Barcelona
With the recent reshuffling of the defense, Kounde has lost his previous status as a first-choice player. Currently struggling with injuries, he has only started five matches this season. Meanwhile, Eric Garcia’s flexibility in playing as a right-back has opened opportunities for Espart to gain first-team exposure.
Although Kounde is contracted with Barcelona until 2030, his diminishing role has caught the eye of various clubs across Europe, leading them to closely monitor his situation.
Chelsea is actively exploring financial aspects regarding a potential transfer for Kounde; however, this preliminary move does not necessarily indicate that they are poised to make an official bid. The high transfer fee involved will significantly influence the course of negotiations. Chelsea is also faced with the challenge of securing a suitable replacement should Kounde exit the club.
Barcelona faces a dilemma: balancing the financial benefits from a sale while assessing the necessity of retaining experienced players. Kounde’s long-standing contract adds further complexity to determining his transfer value.
If Kounde were to depart, Barcelona might consider several candidates for the right-back position, one of whom is Pedro Porro from Tottenham Hotspur. Porro recently extended his contract with Tottenham until 2031 but has expressed a desire to eventually return to La Liga. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly sought information on his situation, with Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta showing particular admiration for Porro.
However, Tottenham is expected to demand a fee exceeding 60 million euros, a price that could pose challenges for Barcelona if they are to pursue this transfer. As Barcelona navigates through these potential changes, the future for Kounde remains uncertain amid intense competition and interest from rival clubs.
