Harry Kane has reached significant achievements while leading England to a resounding 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley on October 7, 2026. The Bayern Munich striker notched two goals, allowing him to equal the record for appearances held by Peter Shilton for the England national team. Kane now stands with 125 caps, matching Shilton’s tally, and is poised to become the sole record holder during England’s next match against Croatia on November 13.
At 33 years of age, Kane has also increased his international goal tally to an impressive 91. His two goals against the Czech Republic have widened the gap between him and Wayne Rooney, who is in second place on the all-time England goalscorers list, by 37 goals. Kane achieved yet another milestone during this match, as his first goal marked his 50th goal for club and country throughout 2026—more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Kane’s Key Contributions and Records
Kane scored his first goal in the 40th minute with a close-range finish, marking him as the fifth active player to hit the 90-goal milestone for England, alongside football legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Romelu Lukaku, and Robert Lewandowski. The striker made his mark again in the 57th minute, directing a header from a corner taken by Lewis Hall, which solidified England’s lead over the Czech side. Moreover, Kane also contributed to England’s opening goal when his pass from the flank led to an own goal by Vladimir Coufal, putting Thomas Tuchel’s team ahead.
Since making his debut for England in March 2015, Kane has rapidly ascended to become the highest goalscorer in the history of the Three Lions and has served as the team’s captain since 2018. His contributions did not go unnoticed, as he received a heartfelt greeting from the Wembley crowd before the match and a standing ovation when substituted in the 82nd minute. Peter Shilton, the former England goalkeeper, expressed his admiration for Kane’s potential to break the appearance record with a message on social media, praising Kane’s consistent performance and dedication throughout his career.
Looking Ahead for Kane and England
As Harry Kane looks to solidify his legacy further, fans are eager to see him in the upcoming match against Croatia where he has the opportunity to claim the record for most appearances for England. With his extraordinary skill, keen sense of the game, and leadership qualities, Kane not only embodies the spirit of the England national team but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring footballers worldwide.
