Bruno Fernandes has expressed his disappointment after Portugal’s FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign came to an end following a narrow 0-1 defeat against Spain in the Round of 16.

“We came here with a very clear goal, which was to win the World Cup.”

Fernandes also accepted that Portugal’s elimination came against one of the strongest teams in the competition. He recognized Spain’s quality and their status as one of the leading candidates to lift the World Cup trophy.
“We lost against one of the title contenders and one of the teams considered favorites to become champions,” he added.
